Come Together

Posted by Thomas Ron, 20/04/2013

Hello all,

I would first like to say that I am tremendously honoured to be Disabled Students Officer.  Thank you to all the people who voted for me, I will honour your trust.

In order for the movement to progress we will need more people actively involving themselves.  Many people believe that because they are not disabled they should not concern themselves with our movement, our campaigns, and our issues.  This is in fact not true.  We as a society have a collective responsibility for each other, and we have to help those in need.  Therefore, it is imperative that we come together to advance the fight for the advancement of the welfare of Disabled Students.

Therefore, I call on everyone, Disabled or not to please come forth and lend your support.  We are always happy to have volunteers and no suggestion is unimportant or trivial.  There are three areas that I wish to target as Officer, Academic Inequality, Empowerment, and Representation.  These are very large areas and there is much to do.  If you are interested, or feel like discussing the issues, finding out more about them, or you want to do something please do not hesitate to contact me.  My officer e-mail is access@yusu.org and our Facebook page is http://www.facebook.com/YUSUds.  Also, please come to the first meeting of the Disabled Students Network, where we discuss and set in motion our goals.  It will be in G/001 at 18:30 on Tuesday the 23rd of April.

With your help we can properly fight the corner of Disabled Students, with your help we can overcome the adversity and the obstacles set in their way, with your help we can make university as good for Disabled Students as it is for everyone else.  Therefore, I ask you all, please take up the fight, please involve yourselves, and we will progress forward.

Thank you

Thomas Ron
