This is our third official week as sabbatical officers; exciting, but crazy times! We had a week of training in Clifton and this is our eighth full day in the office. The purpose of this post is to outline my thoughts on the coming year and what you should expect.
In the grand scheme of things a year is not a huge amount of time, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t fight for change and fight for both a better students’ union and university. I will be leading that front, guided by what you, the students, think. It won’t be easy but I promise you all I won’t shy away from tough decisions. I will take risks and I will be bold. If I stay under the radar and don’t put myself out there I will probably make fewer mistakes, but in turn also have far less of an impact. It is up to you all to hold myself, and the other officers, to account. You elected us and we are here to represent you. With that in mind please be assured that the five of us will be working incredibly hard to be the best officers possible. Hold us to account, but also treat us fairly and with respect.
These first days in the office have been busy. I’ve lost count of the number of meetings I’ve attended and emails I’ve replied to. So far I haven’t had much of a chance to focus on my manifesto points, which is not okay! From now on I am putting aside two hours of every day and will use them to focus on a project, whether that be starting up a YUSU petition site or planning a campaign. Meetings are important, but they aren’t the be all and end all of this role.
I am incredibly excited about the coming year, and about working alongside Grace, Scott, Tom and Chris. We will make a fantastic team. If at any point you have a suggestion or an idea please drop one of us a message or pop into the office for a chat. We are a friendly bunch and eager to hear your opinions.
P.S. Great Song!
Also, don’t we look cute? Chris is short.
