An EXCITING New Policy Briefing. It really is exciting!

Posted by Benjamin Leatham, 05/10/2015

I hope you all had a wonderful Fresher’s Week and that you’ve just about recovered!

Now that term is underway properly, it’s time to get to work on making change here at YUSU, so, here it is... *drumroll*... the very first Policy Briefing of the new term! It's very exciting stuff, these are all ideas proposed by students or student groups (you can put forward an Idea for change by emailing ideas@yusu.org) and we need your feedback on them so that we know whether or not we should turn them into YUSU Policy.

You all play a hugely important role in the process, each of your voices counts and we want it to be a part of the conversation about these ideas - you might well be asked for feedback from your College, Societies or Network as well.

The Ideas to be discussed are;

Should YUSU support free education? [Submitted by Socialist Society]

Should the YUSU ‘Welfare & Community Officer’ be changed to ‘Community & Wellbeing Officer’? [Submitted by Scott Dawson]

Should YUSU implement the proposed changes to the Bye-Laws?

Here is the Policy Briefing:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_KqNPQ97EAud3pVNGhRMURMeW55Y1ltaExrMndLMkZuNmQ4/view?usp=sharing

Simply put, this contains everything you need to know about the Ideas under discussion, as well as some information about what would occur if they were to pass.

All of your feedback gets compiled and looked at by our Policy & Review Group (the PRG) who try to determine if there has been consensus on any of the Ideas.

What Next?

Give us your Feedback! The deadline is the Sunday of Week 3, so two weeks time. You can comment on this post, email me directly or get in touch with policy@yusu.org.

We need a new PRG team for this academic year, applications are open til Wednesday 7th, get in touch with Mike Hewitson our Democracy & Campaigns Coordinator (democracy@yusu.org) for more information.

If you have any questions about the above, a link is broken, you want more information on any of the Ideas or you have no idea what any of this means - please let me know!
