City of York Council: Invest in some lighting on Walmgate Stray

Posted by Benjamin Leatham, 11/11/2015

A huge number of students, staff and local residents use the pathway along Walmgate Stray (the field between Wentworth and Fulford) on a daily basis. Currently a majority of this pathway isn't lit. This is an issue, particularly in winter, for a number of reasons:

  1. The lack of lighting means that the area is hugely inaccessible to people with certain disabilities e.g. visually impaired.
  2. A number of people have been injured whilst walking through Walmgate Stray at night from collisions with bikes / wildlife and from slipping on ice etc...
  3. People feel very unsafe when walking down Walmgate Stray at night.

It's time that the City of York Council did something about this!

Please sign this petition to encourage the Council to install low level lighting along the Walmgate Stray path. This will result in an accessible and safe passage from Wentworth to Fulford. The more signatures we get, the more pressure we can put on the Council.

Thank you.
